Mathias, consultant with a special focus on SAP FI/CO

"Putting theory into practice- my career entry at cimt."

"Hi there, my name is Mathias. I studied Business Informatics on the picturesque North Sea coast. After completing an internship at cimt and writing my Bachelor thesis in the beginning of 2008 I joined the company straight after finishing my studies.

One of my first tasks as an intern was to support a SAP ERP implementation. Contrary to my expectations I was not treated as an intern but rather as a fully-fledged member of the team. I gained valuable insight into the modes of operation and the varied scope of duties in the field of consulting. Thereafter, I started writing my Bachelor thesis.

Since I have also been trained in a bank house I decided to write the thesis in the area of SAP-Treasury applications. In the process I explored the introduction of SAP Cash Management and Treasury at one of cimt's customers.

Today my consulting focus lies on SAP Financials that span from standard accounting and Cash Management to applications from the Financial Supply Chain.

Working for cimt is very appealing because the atmosphere is congenial, you work self dependently and the hierarchies within the company are flat. Thus, I truly enjoy being part of this consulting firm.

My conclusion: "A great variety of tasks and duties combined with individual responsibility. Could you ask for more?"

"Everything but common - career launching at cimt ag"

After finishing recently my bachelor studies of Applied Computer Science I am now employed at cimt ag in Cologne since September 2009.
I also wrote my thesis on the topic SAP NetWeaver Business Rules Management (BRM) in cooperation with cimt ag. Already before finishing my thesis I could contribute to projects and was integrated into everyday life - ore practice is impossible. The whole team, by the way a very young team, welcomed me warmly and I receive the best support.

Why I made my decision for cimt ag?
Already at the job interview I was positively surprised, that cimt ag doesn't only count on good marks, but also takes a look at soft skills. I was especially thrilled about the possibilities and encouragement, to develop oneself into new topics. In particular the areas BPM and BRM are very appealing to me.

I have learnt to appreciate the open and fair cooperation at cimt ag. The even company hierarchy allows to introduce new ideas directly on management level.

At cimt ag, I have the opportunity to advance my skills and I broaden my knowledge day by day.  Until now I have not experienced a monotonous or boring work life. I am happy to have become a part of the cimt team and eager to participate in new projects.

Thorsten, consultant with a special focus on SAP NetWeaver PI

"There is always something exciting going on."

"Before I joined cimt I worked in software development and configuration management for different companies.  At cimt I was given the opportunity to work in a field that was comparatively new to me.

Before long I assisted customers with SAP PI. By now I have already completed a number of exciting projects and have discovered that the topics are varied and that our project work is always innovative. What is so appealing in the area of SAP PI is the customer proximity on the one hand combined with  the diversity of tasks on the other hand: from Legacy Systems Integration to  the configuration of  SOA Landscapes.

These are the three things that I value most about cimt:

  • The extremely cooperative working environment which guarantees that you will never be left alone with a problem. This is particularly helpful in your first months on the job.
  • The fact that there is always scope for development, which allows me to put my own ideas into action and to explore new technologies.

The open relationship with senior management.  If there is a problem that needs to be resolved I don't have to book an appointment with my boss, I just visit him in his office. Every year we take a canoeing trip together and we frequent the local tapas place on irregular intervals."

"Learn something new every day and apply it right away."

"I started working for a big German software company while I was still busy with my studies at the University of Applied Sciences in Darmstadt. This was a great advantage and I learned a lot. Those additional qualifications helped me a great deal when I joined cimt ag.

Right from the beginning I was entrusted with a multitude of challenging tasks. I rose to those new challenges and learned a lot about Java Server Faces and Document Management, especially Optical Character Recognition. I was able to immediately apply and deepen those new skills in my projects. I also got to know many other new technologies in this context.

What I like most about cimt ag is the cooperative work spirit. Special skills are always shared with colleagues and vocational training is highly encouraged by our management. They attach great importance to the exchange of information within the company. Meetings and workshops take place on a regular basis, where new technologies are presented and discussed in great detail.

Since I had no experience in consulting before I joined cimt ag, I was very curious about what was to come about. It turned out to be the perfect decision."

"It all begins with a pile of ironing"

"Why does an SAP-consultant even have to iron his shirts? Neither the computer nor SAP demands a dress code and many an IT guy dresses rather casually."

But nevertheless, my working week begins on a Sunday night. After double-checking the filling level of the distilled water and getting out the ironing board I confront the seemingly endless pile of wrinkled shirts. After having removed all wrinkles from the fabric, the next challenge is to carefully fold them and stash them into the waiting suitcase. By now I have developed a tried and tested routine of what else I need to pack for the week. Once my bags are packed and the notebook is safely stowed away the last thing I manage is to ring for a taxi for the next morning before I go to bed early.

Once I?ve finished all these little preparations I look forward to an exciting week, filled with challenges, lots of variety, instant decisions and quick and innovative solutions. The tools I need are no longer iron and board but my cell phone, e-mail, power point and the SAP systems that need to be kept in check. The latter are very complex and high-performing but sometimes also somewhat stubborn. But with a team of different specialists they can be tamed quite easily.

When I'm on the road I phone our assistants in the Hamburg office to organize my travels for the upcoming weeks or I use the time to talk to one of my colleagues from my research group Business Intelligence.

When on site I am all about the client. That demands a number of different roles from me. In one project I am project manager, in the next one I am a sales representative, and for yet another customer I implement requirements directly into the system.

While the week progresses the pile of wrinkled shirts gets bigger and bigger again. However, during the week I quite like the shirts. Somehow they symbolize the respect and dedication of my service delivery to the client."

"The space to develop my creative side."

"Computer scientists like to spend their time in a deep, dark basement." This is a prejudice still held by many people. Fortunately, as a cimt consultant I can prove them wrong. My projects are actually quite diverse and every working day is different.

  • As a coach I help the customer to under- stand and use new technologies in order to solve the problems of the company
  • As a developer I implement the customer's demands in a team
  • As a trainer I deliver lectures that are often accompanied by practical exercises
  • And finally as a consultant it is my major aim to arrive at flexible solutions by talking to the customer to assess the situation"
