Sir Edmund Hillary Foundation
Hospital in Nepal
The small city of Paphlu is situated only 80 kilometers south of Mount Everest, in the East of crisis-ridden Nepal. There, in 1975, the legendary alpine climber Sir Edmund Hillary has founded an urgently needed hospital. Today, 18,000 receive outpatient treatment every year. Another 1,300 are treated in hospital and 500 surgeries are performed at 2,650 meters above sea level.

For three years now, the hospital, which is lead by Dr. Mingmar Gyelzen, a Sherpa, receives funds from the employees and directors of cimt ag. "Including our last donation of 12,500 Euro, we have contributed 40,950 Euro in total to the work of the Sir Edmund Hillary Foundation", said managing director Georg Westerburg. His colleague, Christoph Friedlaender, added: "Our help is urgently needed, because Nepal is a very poor country fighting against internal turmoil." Today, the donations from our more than 100 employees, in Germany as well as in the United States, are essential for the Hillary project. "They are the most active supporter from Germany", expressed Ingrid Versen, the foundation?s director, her thanks towards Mr. Westerburg and Mr. Friedlaender.
