Theater Group "Meine Damen und Herren"

Dideldum! - Busch's moving pictures

A street performance, shown by the theater group "Meine Damen und Herren" (former Station 17 Theater), with costumes and set designs by the artist group "Die Schlumper".

Colorful, strange characters - a large scenery somewhere in the landscape. Suddenly, it gets alive and, accompanied by music, starts moving. The characters stop, a play evolves until the action once again freezes and the scene becomes an illustration. Then, the action moves on - following the tracks of Wilhelm Busch's tales.

Max and Moritz, Widow Bolte, Tailor Böck, "Pious" Helene, Uncle and Aunt Nolte, Balduin Bählamm - all these world-wide known characters from Wilhelm Busch's satirically funny comic strips could be seen on streets and places in Hamburg during summer 2006. Just like the characters, put through the visual interpretation machinery of the artist group "Schlumpenmaler", the stories are newly interpreted by the actors of "Meine Damen und Herren".

Three story cycles were created.

  1. The cycle of love
  2. The cycle of aspirations
  3. The cycle of success and failure in parenting children

Every story cycle takes 15 to 20 minutes. The moving pictorial sceneries are supported by a mobile accompaniment. A small music group, including accordions, musical saws, and vocals, delivers a commentary on the action of the play. Together with a partner, the famous musician Palma Kunkel places acoustic accents, supporting the images with sound and offering keys to the sequence of the play. As a small orchestra, they design the play as well.
