03.02.2009 - Hamburg based cimt ag is biggest donor of Phaplu hospital in Nepal
Management and employees of Hamburg based IT-company cimt ag have once again donated a sum of 9.600 Euros to the Sir Edmund Hillary foundation. This brings the total sum of cimt donations close to 50.000 Euros. The money goes directly to a hospital in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Phaplu Hospital located in the district headquarter of Solukhumbu was built by Sir Edmund Hillary in 1975. The hospital is still funded by the foundation bearing the name of the first climber known to have reached the summit of Mount Everest and cimt ag is the biggest German supporter.
cimt ag's chairman of the board Georg Westerburg says: "The hospital is the only access point to any form of healthcare for the local population. In the past few years our donations have made a significant contribution to improve public healthcare in and around Phaplu. Dental treatments, simple eye-operations, births and other basic operation can be now be carried out locally."
Ever since 2002 cimt ag donations contribute to the funding of the hospital which is lead by Sherpa Dr. Mingmar Gyelzen. Westerburg's fellow board member Christoph Friedlaender: "Our help is crucial as Nepal is a very poor country which is also afflicted by civil unrest." The cimt employees think that it is especially important that nursing staff and doctors in the clinic are fully qualified. According to Friedlaender: "Our current donation of 9.600 Euros allows the hospital to train a new nurse and pay her for the next three years. Thus, we are helping to secure sustainable healthcare in the region."
