Managing business partners and contact information: focussed CRM based on SAP R/3

Relations between data ? everything is reduced to ONE master!

We have developed a simple CRM solution based on SAP R/3 and SAP Web Application Server for those customers who do not want a complete SAP CRM system because of its complexity and high costs. Our solution includes tools for managing business partners? master data, contact information, as well as activities and schedules.

Business partners' master data

The functionality of the CRM system meets all requirements with regards to a flexible mapping of business partners? master data, changing organizational structure of a company, and varying contact persons. A major aspect of the system?s quality is the prevention of redundant data. Hence, the consequences of redundant data resulting from inconclusive identification of a business partner (e.g. returned mail) can be avoided and transparency is increased. In order to avoid redundancies, the system continuously verifies the data and checks for similarities with existing master data sets. These checks rely on comparison of specific address fields and characteristic items of each data set.

Managing contacts, activities, and schedules

The focus of the contact information management is the activities related to each business partner. The system supports quick and easy maintenance of different events. An event can be a customer request, a phone call, a customer visit, a sales report, or an appointment. A key feature of the contact management is the progress tracking which allows not only for tracking sales activities but also for planning such activities along a timeline. The system also enables flexible integration of address data in the process of planning and executing different activities and campaigns.

The major objective of our development was to enable all sales staff to store customer related data in a central data base realizing overall advantages (e.g. cross selling). Hence, a main focus of this solution is the ease of use and intuitive user interface. For sales representatives, mobile access to the data is also available.

Our solution is based on SAP R/3 requiring at least release 4.6.
