Highlights

Project scope

The BWB business unit networks managed its complex and interdependent sub-processes with the help of comprehensive document files and complicated processing. All different kinds of documents are subject to this processing: lists of materials, blueprints of service lines, notes and sketches, as well as files from common office applications. Only after an extensive process analysis, we gained a clear picture of the whole workflow. The company?s IT infrastructure was pretty heterogeneous, consisting of different platforms and software technologies. The objective of our engagement was to develop a web solution bundling the complex processes as well as the flood of paper, offering front-end accessibility via a browser. The result is a holistic application: workflows combined with electronic document processing and controlling features

Goals / Success factors

  • Front-end applications do not require more than a Java-enabled browser.
  • The conceptual weaknesses of workflows in complex processes could be eliminated by implementing a unique and innovative ad-hoc system.
  • Reporting and controlling features allow managing schedules, resources, and budgets.

Customer benefits

During the project, the system was developed to combine the traditional and rigid workflow with a high degree of freedom regarding the processing. Simplified workflows and increased individuality of procedures reduce the time until a process is closed. The integrated DMS (document management system) allows every person in charge to access documents from any point of the network. In future, mobile access will also be realized within a follow-up project.
